More air show photos- Radials and Rivers Fly In

We spent the day at the fly in and were able to see many antique planes in the air and up close on the ground.

This plane was flown by Charles Lindbergh, and is beautiful to see in the air.

This is Miss Montana who has been in a museum for the past 20 years in Missoula, MT and just  8 months ago was made sky worthy. The crew just flew back from the D-Day celebration in Normandy.  While intended for WWII, it never went but was used in firefighting efforts instead.

Whitey Feightner

Bud Anderson signing his books.
With support from staff, Whitey Feightner was able to sit in the cockpit of the Hellcat that he flew in WWII- he will be 100 in October. It was a very heartwarming and emotional experience.

Air Show in Clarkston, WA

Our friends took us to the airport as planes were beginning to fly in for the air show that began today and will continue tomorrow. We got to see and hear from two WWII veterans, Bud Anderson and Whitey Feightner. Both were honored for their service and we had the privilege of hearing some of their heroic acts. The planes they flew were there as well!

Check out the sky just as we were heading home and a huge storm was brewing.

Butte, MT Copper capital of the world!

Along the way today, we stopped in Butte and checked out the copper mine which is still in operation. There was a memorial to miners who were trapped in the mine when a fire broke out in 1917 and died, mostly due to toxic gases. We also stopped at Big Hole National Battlefield to learn about another sad story of the Nez Perce Indians.

More photos of Rt. 12 through Montana

Miles of construction........

Even more miles of a very fragrant wild flower, sweet clover. Beautiful and smells like honey.

Miles City, MT to Helena, MT (via rt. 12)

I sound like a broken record but we had another beautiful riding day- a bit of storm dodging and road work, but still great. We are in the capital city of Helena, MT watching the storms roll past from our hotel room! I had more photos to add, but the internet isn’t strong enough to support it- maybe tomorrow.

Bismarck, ND to Miles City, MT via Theodore Roosevelt NP

Great travel day even though we were on an interstate the whole way, I-94. It was another gorgeous day with a few thunderstorms near the NP. The loop road in the park was closed for a section due to a washout so we couldn’t do the whole route. Still, we were able to see plenty of prairie dogs, a few buffalo and wild horses.
