Colorado Springs, CO to Moab, UT by way of Gunnison, CO

Our plan yesterday was to see Pikes Peak since we were right there, and begin heading home by motorcycle. We changed our mind about the idea of flying since we now had plenty of time to get home. However, at the top of Pikes Peak, Carolyn (Cleve's sister) called to say that the funeral was now not going to be held until July 26. So, now we had to regroup and make yet another plan for heading home- our final decision was to stay our west and see a few more things and then head home the early part of next wee. We should be home by July 24th or 25th.

Meanwhile, Pikes Peak at 14,000 plus feet was beautiful. It was a chilly 47 degrees on top while in the 80's down below. We took out time ascending and spent about 2 hours on top looking out from every viewpoint. It is above the tree line so the area is very rocky. The elevation made is hard to catch our breath- we were winded just walking on flat land!! Eventually, we rode back down and stopped at Starbucks for a read-eye (our new favorite coffee drink). While inside, thankfully, a huge storm rolled by dumping rain and hail for about 45 minutes. We had been sitting outside, and moved in as is got closer, but left the helmets on the covered porch. Everything was covered in hail.

For kids, there is a cute North Pole stop to Santa's workshop

From there, we headed west and spent the night in Gunnison, CO. It is a college town that was quiet this time of year. I imagine it perks up when school is in session. We left Gunnison this morning and are now in Moab trying to decide how to entertain ourselves. As I type Cleve is checking out different types of excursions (boats, rafts, jeeps, hummers.....etc).

The jeep rental won out-we will head out tomorrow morning for a day of off-road riding on 4 wheels!! Stay tuned for pictures.
