Rocky Harbour to Hawks Bay, NL

It has been a couple of days without wifi- many B&B's do not have it we have learned. Our trip from Rocky Harbour took us towards the Viking Trail on a chilly Thursday morning. We stopped off at the B&B where we would stay that night, dropped off our gear and headed up the Viking Trail to L'anse aux Meadows, where the Vikings came 1000 years ago. We left Gloria's in 70 degree weather and traveled north towards the Northern Peninsula, through Gros Morne NP. The scenery through the NP is beautiful- big rocky mountains with fjords running through them. By the time we reached the L'anse aux Meadows it was 42 degrees- we were cold and went into the visitor center to warm up. There was a tour through the Viking village that was only discovered in 1960, but we were to cold to go out and walk!! Sod huts were featured in the tour but we got the jist of it by looking at the display indoors!! After warming up, we headed back to the B&B, Gloria's in Hawks Bay.

Our hostess, Gloria was great to talk to- we learned that she came from a family of 21 kids- yes, I wrote it right- 21 kids. Her aunt had 23. Big families were very common then. Most of them live in nearby towns. We got to know her dog, Harley and her daughter Tammy who has a hair salon in Gloria's garage. It is a very close knit family!!

Check out the photos, mostly from Gros Morne NP-
