Baker, Nevada to Chester, CA

We went much further than expected today- we traveled the entire width of Nevada and into northern California. We were on the road about 12 hours. We left before sunrise while it was cool (cold, in fact in the 5o's), and continued until 5:30 this evening. It was not as cool once the sun came up, but under 95!! We took Rt. 50 going west. It was named the "Loneliest Highway" in 1986 by a reporter for Life magazine. Nevada decided to make a tourist attraction out of the highway. We picked up a Survival Guide in Ely, Nevada and had it stamped in five locations along the way. Once we submit our stamped guide we will receive a certificate to commemorate our survival on the loneliest road in America!!

Notice the time stamp- we were actually on pacific time, an hour earlier- 5:21!

We stopped in Ely, Nevada for breakfast- casinos are everywhere so that is where we ate- the Nevada Hotel and Casino.

There are a lot of very straight roads in Nevada- no way you can get lost!
This is the only stop in Middlegate, Nevada- we had lunch here. There aren't many choices out there!!

Salt pits and sand hills are common out here. This one is a recreation site.
We are now in Chester, CA. I need to mention that a few days ago, I told Cleveland that the breaks were squeaking. He does not hear high frequency sounds, so he did not give it much thought. I told him several times, but until he felt a grinding in the rear brake did he give it much attention. so now we are here and need to regroup and find a place that can put new pads on the rear brake.

Stay tuned for tomorrows post- brakes are the priority, so I am not sure if we'll make it to Lassen NP, our original destination tomorrow.
