Cortez, CO to Richfield, UT

We headed out around 9 this morning with Capital Reef NP as our destination. The scenery along the way was just beautiful. We took Rt.'s 491,191,95 and finally 24 which took us from east to west through Capitol Reef NP. Our plan was to do some walks and hikes but as it turns out it took us much longer to get there than we planned. We took our time going through the park and opted not to take the scenic road which was another hour or more. We stopped at numerous overlooks and high lights, but probably Rt. 95 was more scenic than the NP! The road was curvy and hilly and due to an early morning hard rain, there were several places that had washed out along the road. Undecided about where to stop for the night, we continued on after the park thinking we would stay just to the west, but it was only 4 so we kept going. As has happened before, we then had little or no motels to choose from. Eventually, we headed toward I-70 (the long way) and found a spot for the night in Richfield, Ut.

I took 150 pictures today so it is hard to decide which ones to put in the blog- so many to choose from!

Once again, we missed some very heavy storms- apparently this is monsoon season our here.

The Colorado river is down below with people rafting on it.

The next Nick Wallenda??
