Ely, NV to Salt Lake City, UT

Yeah- no storms to dodge today! Clear sailing as we headed out of Ely, NV to Utah....destination Salt Lake City. We took Rt. 93 and then 93A to I-80. It was an uneventful drive as we stopped at the Bonneville Salt Flats then on the Salt Lake City. We plan to spend two nights here so that tomorrow we can take the hop-on, hop-off city tour bus. Tonight we walked to the Red Rock Brewery for dinner- both the beer and food was delicious!

Good-bye Hotel Nevada- a really nice nice old hotel built in 1929.
We passed a tree filled with motorists' memorabilia- strange things happen out here in the middle of nowhere!
Someone even left a prosthetic leg!
Here we start to see the salt flats. Over yonder is the UT test and training grounds- top secret!!

We stopped at the speedway- the flats go on for miles! Cars that race here can go 5-600 MPH!
It was surprisingly wet around the edges. There were warnings not to drive on it- we heeded the warnings!

Cleve is racing!!
This is called "floating island" because there is a visual effect of it floating when you see it in the distance.
To give a bit of perspective, there is our bike parked on the pavement. We are surrounded by slat flats.

Red Rock Brewery- we had a couple of good beers and some great food as well. They use an oven to bake their own pita pockets, pizza's.....etc. It was fun to watch from our seats at the bar.
