Richfield, UT to Ely, NV (via Great Basin NP)

We left Richfield, UT around 9 a.m. heading  toward Great Basin NP. We took Rt.'s I-70, I-15 and then state Rt. 21 to Nevada. As has happened often, we dodged a few huge storms. We passed by Baker, NV where we spent the night a couple of years ago (there is a story with that town), and then headed to the park. Our first stop was to Lehmens Cave- we decided to take the tour. It was great, took 1-1/2 hours with a knowledgeable tour guide. From there we hiked  the Bristlecone Pine Trail and then to the Glacier Trail which took us to the little bit of snow still at the base of the glacier.

Cleve was the "rear man" with the flashlight.

Very narrow tunnels and low ceilings- not for those who are claustrophobic!!

Back to the open air and ready for a hike-
If you look for the snow at the lowest point, that's where we are going to hike to-
Bristelcone pines- some as old as several thousand years old.

This one looks dead, but has new growth on one branch. They are very hardy plants.
We are getting closer!

Still closer-
We have arrived- not at the peak but at the mouth of the glacier. This is when the camera said it was full, something had to go. I had no clue how to manage that problem and started by removing a few photos, but that didn't help. So the I let FB and several other aps go and that did the trick. This was no time to have camera failure!
Yup- that is snow
We took a snack break before our decent. I tried to take our first selfie but trashed it- it looked terrible!
What a view- we are o the way back down.
We are staying at the Hotel Nevada tonight- can you pick out our bike?
Hotel, casino and restaurant all in one, visited by many celebrities over the years.
