Salt Lake City, UT to Twin Falls, Idaho

We're off again, thsi time north to Idaho. We have no clear destination in mind but know we want to go north towards Idaho. From I-15 we saw a sign for Gold Spike National Monument. Unbeknownst to me, this was on Cleve's bucket list. We had previously seen old photos of the event but weren't sure where it actually happened. So we stopped in Promontory, UT where it took place: the Pacific and Union railwroads built and connected the first transcontinental railroad that met in Promontory, UT. That is the sight of the final spike was nailed in place. On the way there we happened to discover that Orbital ATK has a site out here where they can test rockets. Orbital is who our son, Adam works for in NOVA.
So we saw two sights along the way! We continued on I-84, then got off on state rt. 30 towards Twin Falls. We were able to see the Shoshone Falls (the Niagra of the west) , a beautiful waterfall that falls 212 feet! It is where the Snake river comes through the dam in this area- beautiful spot.

The post Cleve is stepping on is where the gold spike was pounded in, completing the first transcontinental railroad in 1869.
In Promentory, UT here is the Orbital ATK complex-

We walked to dinner to a place reocommended by the hotel- Elevation 486. It overlooks the canyon and Snake River. Down below you can see a beautiful golf course set down in the canyon.
This is our view from the patio where we had dinner.

We sat outside on the patio- it was a great view!
